COVID-19 Guidelines and Procedures
Procedure linked to appointments using clinic space:
· If specified with Butterflies Holistic occupational therapy (BOT) appointments will be at Insight Therapy Centre, Leeds, LS8 4HA.
· There is street parking and disabled access as needed (need of this will be discussed and appropriate room booked which has this access).
· Clients will be invited into the building when BOT is ready to take them into their room for their appointment.
· Use of alcohol rub or sanitiser to be used upon arrival/exit of Insight therapy Centre
· Rooms will be wiped down between appointments.
· Clients / families do not enter the building if they have any of the symptoms outlined by the Government which require self-isolation.
Procedure linked to appointments within clients homes:
· BOT staff member will wear disposable apron and gloves. A face shield will be worn when working with the client (a distance of 1m will be adhered to) and a face mask will be added if a family member is within the room and cannot maintain a social distance of 2m.
· 1 parent/carer to attend the visit. They must wear a face mask if a distance of 2m cannot be maintained.
· Face shield/face masks are required if there is anticipated or likely risk of contamination with splashes, droplets or bodily fluids.
· Use of alcohol rub or sanitiser to be used upon arrival/exit of clients homes.
· Client and BOT staff member will use alcohol rub/sanitiser prior to the start of the assessment / therapy and if they touch their face, or wipe their nose or mouth.
· When possible BOT will maintain a distance of 2m, when this is not possible a distance of 1m will be kept, and BOT will follow risk mitigation procedures.
· When competing table top activities BOT staff member will sit at a distance of 1m and ensure risk mitigations are followed which include:
o further increasing the frequency of hand washing and surface cleaning,
o keeping the activity time involved as short as possible,
o using screens or barriers to separate people from each other,
o using back-to-back or side-to-side working (rather than face-to-face) whenever possible,
o reducing the number of people each person has contact with by using ‘fixed teams or partnering’ (so each person works with only a few others).
· There will be no sharing of pens, documents or other objects. All provided therapy resources will be cleaned prior to the session and used only in this session by the client themselves.
· Please can families open windows / doors to ensure well ventilated rooms whenever possible.
· BOT will endeavour to complete as much of the assessment / therapy in an outside space.
Procedures adhered to by BOT for both types of client interaction:
· BOT will be cleaning hands more than usual and washing hands for 20 seconds with running water and soap or dry thoroughly or use alcohol hand rub or sanitiser ensuring all parts of the hands are covered.
· BOT will use a tissue for coughing/sneezing to ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’.
· BOT will limit contact to eyes, nose and mouth.
· BOT will ensure, where possible, all spaces are well ventilated using natural ventilation (open windows) or ventilation units.
· For distance of less than 2 metres, BOT will wear disposable gloves, a disposable apron and a fluid resistant surgical mask. We will provide this equipment ourselves. If a risk assessment determines that there is a risk of splashing to the eyes, for example from coughing, spitting, or vomiting, then eye protection will also be worn.
· BOT equipment will be held in two boxes, clean and needs cleaning once it has been used to prevent cross contamination and cleaned after use (between appointments) using antibacterial cleaner.
· No equipment will be allowed to be borrowed by the client/families at this time.
· At this time no soft toys or toys which are hard to clean will be used.
Risk assessment
· Prior to each visit BOT will complete a risk assessment to ensure clients/families do not show any COVID-19 symptoms outlined by the government which require self-isolation.
· Risk changes and this will be repeated as necessary.
