Butterflies Holistic Occupational Therapy works with families and schools across Yorkshire to enable children to build on their independent skills, to ensure they meet their full potential.
We support children and young people with difficulties around accessing the school curriculum and independent living skills such as feeding, sleeping, toileting, dressing and handwriting.
We provide specialist assessment and intervention for any sensory and/or neurological difficulties using evidence based research to provide appropriate, holistic and realistic intervention.
We complete sensory assessment and intervention.
We are trained to teach Paws. b, Mindfulness in School Project.
We are a friendly and reliable local children's occupational therapy (children's OT) service offering a bespoke and personalised approach within and around Yorkshire. We are non-judgemental, flexible and transparent.
If you have any concerns and are unsure if your child needs therapy please feel free to contact us and we can discuss these concerns. If you do not want to wait for NHS assessment / intervention we are able to provide a considerably faster and personalised service to meet your child’s needs.
Assessments are completed over different settings.
The bulk of the assessment is completed in the North Leeds studio space. Assessments can take between 1-3 hours and are completed during the day. If needed the assessment may be over 2 sessions and the child may need to return if more information is required.
In most cases a school observation will be required which enables observations across different areas of the school the child engages with such as lessons, lunchtime and playtime. This is a great opportunity to liaise with key staff members to enable them to voice any strengths or challenges the child being assessed is having accessing the curriculum.
A discussion on the telephone will also happen between the therapist and family to further build a clear picture of the child's strengths and challenges.
If you have had a recent assessment (within 6 months) we provide a 1x hour face to face goal setting session at a small cost to review skills, and goals. We then produce a short document with GAS goals, outcomes, and recommendations.
We are now providing JOINT Speech and Language and Occupational Therapy Assessments (SALTS) with our Sophie and Liz. Please contact the team for more details.
Reports are created based on the desired outcome, and is pre-agreed between therapist and main caregivers before being started.
Reports can take up to 6-8 weeks to complete based on the time it takes to book in the school visits, if it is the holidays, or it takes time to receive any additional documents which need to be taken into account to form the report.
A therapy session is a 45 minute face-to-face intervention and 15 minutes admin time for the therapist to complete notes and clean the space ready for the next client. The family / main caregivers may arrange a a short discussion with the therapist to discuss progress outside of this time.
The last time for sessions is 4.00pm. If needed a letter can be produced to provide to school to support why the child is needing to leave school early to attend appointments.
We are running various groups within the studio and in most instances your child will need either to have had an assessment completed with Butterflies Occupational Therapy, or you will have had a recent report from another Occupational Therapy company (no more than 3 months old) to attend a group.
We will be running small groups / weekly sessions in our multi sensory space, watch this space!
Here at Butterflies Holistic Occupational Therapy, we are offering a specialist group programme (one of a kind in the UK!) to help your little ones get ready for the transition to school.
Transitioning from nursery to school is a big change, with new expectations and environments to navigate. Research has shown that increased parent and child confidence regarding a child’s transition can lead to a more successful school transition, which in turn leads to improved academic outcomes.
This group aims to promote development of the skills required for school transitions and to build your child’s confidence in the following areas:
This group consists of 6x60 minute sessions for children transitioning to a mainstream school in the upcoming academic year, and who are able to cope with group situations.
Group sizes will contain a maximum of 6 children and will be facilitated by 2 occupational therapists. We will be running programmes throughout the year.

Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI)Therapy Studio
We are very excited to announce that we have had a recent update of equipment to continue to provide Ayres Sensory Integration Therapy. The majority of our work will be in here for part of or all of your child/ young persons therapy sessions.
What you need to know
We have a therapy studio based in North Leeds which is in a shared office building. We are based on the ground floor with 3 steps to access the main level.
We have kitchen facilities and there are shared toilets with the rest of the building. We also have 3 parking spaces behind our space and there is plenty of street parking on Devonshire Avenue which is a 2 minute walk from Devonshire House where we are based.
Before accessing this space you will be asked to complete a risk assessment and complete informed consent to using the equipment. You will not be allowed to start sessions without this being completed.
When arriving you will be asked to take your shoes off (if possible please wear socks) and leave your shoes in a safe space and there is a sofa for parents / main caregivers to sit. We want you to be part of this experience as there is ongoing psycho-education to you so that you are also developing your skills and knowledge of this area.
Sensory ladder / diet and emotional regulation intervention
We use our space to support our clients to build awareness and understanding of what is happening inside their bodies, what emotions this may link to and what actions to take to self regulate. These are created as part of the ASI intervention or can be a separate piece of work which takes place over 6 weeks (dependent on the person).
All sessions are 45 minutes face to face with a break in the middle for regulation (if needed) so please bring a snack and a drink. There will be time to review and ask questions.
After each session the room is cleaned with anti bacterial spray before the next client comes in.
We also complete a deep clean of the room routinely.
There may be traces of nuts within the studio and within the building - please make sure we are informed if you or your child have a nut allergy.
