Joint Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Therapy Assessment

Is your child facing challenges with sensory processing, motor skills, functional independence, or communication? Our children's therapy services offer a joint OT SLT assessment that provides a holistic, time-efficient approach to understanding and supporting your child’s needs. 

Children rarely present with needs that fit neatly within one profession. Sensory processing differences can impact: 

- Gross and fine motor development & daily functioning (such as dressing, handwriting, toileting, and eating—OT remit),

- Speech, language & social communication (SLT remit),

- Emotional regulation & attention control (joint remit).

By collaborating, our therapists bring a multidisciplinary perspective to the sensory processing assessment, providing: 

- Streamlined assessment time (3 hours total, not separate sessions), 

- Integrated understanding of your child’s profile, 

- Collaborative planning to ensure the support plan fits your family’s goals, thoroughly assessing sensory processing, functional skills, and communication.

You’ll receive a detailed written report alongside a feedback session with both clinicians. During this session, a recommended programme of support tailored to your child’s strengths and needs will be discussed with you. Guidance will be provided on which professional is best placed to lead therapy, based on your family's priorities and goals, especially concerning our children's therapy services. 

*Please note that a joint assessment is not advisable if you require reports for an Education, Health and Care plan. In this case, it is better to have two separate assessments and reports. However, we can still collaborate effectively. 

We also offer joint OT and SLT assessments, including a sensory processing assessment, and liaise with schools as part of the agreed plan of action. We find this multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach works exceptionally well and keeps everyone accountable for your young person's progress.
